RFID library solution significantly reduces management costs and increases the time that librarians spend with patrons by enabling automated book handling at check-in, check-outs, inventory, book sorting and theft deterrence. By adopting RFID tags, scanning rate on tag is much faster.

Modules
RFID Staff Station
The RFID staff station is located at the check in/out station in the library and it is to be used by the staff/librarians only. Issue or book return.
Self-Check
The RFID self-check-in/out station is an easy to use interface which enables library patrons to manage their own transactions, review their account status and renews library materials in real time. Using the self-check will reduce queuing and waiting time when the RFID Staff Station is busy.
RFID Book Drop
The RFID book drop is usually located outside of the library premises. It allows books, CDs and other library materials to be returned safely and securely any time and even before or after library working hours. The RFID book drop creates another easy return option for library patrons as library materials can be returned 24 hours a day any time convenient to the patrons. The use of RFID book drop will increase customer service because library staff will have more time to assist library patrons. Overall, queuing and waiting time for book return will be reduced significantly.
Shelf Reader
The shelf reader is usually used by staff/librarians only. The shelf reader can be used to track item-level inventory and asset locations which eliminate manual counting of assets. Thus improves the accuracy of the count.
UPM Raflatac DogBone UHF Tag
The Library Tagging system from Smartag Solutions uses UPM Raflatac’s DogBone tags, which ensure that accurate readings taken in a split second can be documented using RFID Inventory Management. The RFID technology provides Library with a fast, accurate means of gathering inventory information on a large quantity of library materials.
The UHF reader, which is an anti-theft component of the RFID Library System, has a range greater than an HF reader, providing functionality at up to six meters. A computer will instruct the reader to detect books which has not been borrowed, triggering the alarm when items pass through the check-out gate.
“The tagged library materials enable patrons to self-checkout and return materials quickly and efficiently. There’s no more barcode scanning or date stamping – items are placed on the RFID reader, and within seconds the material and user information are updated in the library system.” says Shukriah Yon, Director, Penang Public Library Corporation.
