Smartag Solutions Berhad (Smartag) is a track and trace solutions provider that
utilizes Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and innovative technologies to provide
online and mobile solutions that enable users to have visibility, transparency and
security. Since being established in 2004, Smartag has been growing from strength
to strength. Smartag achieved yet another milestone with its successful listing
on the Ace Market of Bursa Malaysia on 18th April 2011.
Smartag has been awarded Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) Malaysia company status
in 2007. In 2009, we became a member of GS1 EPC Global. Smartag also represents
the Malaysia Department of Standards in the ISO Technical Committee TC104. In 2009
our dedicated R&D team commenced development of Smartrack™ EPCIS (Electronic Product
Code Information Systems), which culminated in the company receiving the ‘Best of
e-Logistics Merit Award’ for Smartrack™ at the MSC Malaysia APICTA Awards 2010,
and Merit Winner under the category of e-Logistics and Supply Chain Management at
the Asia Pacific ICT Alliance Awards 2010. Smartrack™ is also the first in Asia
Pacific, and the second in the world to pass all nine (9) conformance test branches
conducted by MET Laboratories and subsequently awarded with the EPC Global Software
Certification Mark. Smartag is a member of the Microsoft Partner Network. On 5th
May 2011, Smartag Solutions Berhad successfully attained the Gold Independent Software
Vendor (ISV) /Software competency, less than a month after attaining Silver ISV/Software
competency.
Since 2008, Smartag has been active in track and trace for container security solutions
by working together with regional port operators and Customs authorities, on RFID
solutions for Security and Trade Facilitation. Smartag has been collaborating with
Shanghai International Port (Group) Company Limited on RFID Container solutions
since 2010. We are the partner for Netbay Co., Ltd. to implement and operate container
security with Royal Customs Department of Thailand. On 30 April 2012, Smartag entered
into an agreement with the Royal Malaysian Customs as the service provider for the
Container Security and Trade Facilitation System using Radio Frequency Identification
(RFID).
Secured Trade Service which was commercialised since 1st September 2012 is one of
the Economic Transformation Program (ETP) initiatives by the Malaysian government
to turn Malaysia into a developed and high-income economy by the year 2020. Secured
Trade Project is expected to benefit the country through better security for cargo
and the country’s revenue as well as prevention of malpractices on the ground. Implementation
of the Secured Trade Project involves installation of infrastructure at all major
Customs checkpoints and integration with Customs Information System to automate
the Customs’ clearance process. The implementation of the Secured Trade system is
focused on movement of goods in transit, commonly known as Customs Form 8 or K8
movement. It will prevent unscrupulous traders from using Customs transit to smuggle
prohibited and high value taxable goods into Malaysia.
On 5 April 2012, Multimedia Development Corporation (MEDC) as the mandated organization
by the Government to visualize, and drive Digital Malaysia has selected Smartag
to implement the project “Establishing a Trusted Mobile Digital Wallet System” based
on Near Field Communication for Mobile Phone. Under this project, Smartag is providing
NFC Digital Wallet that act as a container for all mobile electronic credit cards,
debits card, electronic vouchers, coupon, membership cards, transit payment cards
and electronic tickets. On 9 October 2012, Smartag has signed a Memorandum of Understanding
with Malaysian Electronic Clearing Corporation Sdn Bhd (MyClear) to collaborate
on the development of a NFC ecosystem for Malaysia. The Collaboration is expected
to further strengthen the implementation of the Mobile Wallet Project under Digital
Malaysia and is expected to provide additional great milestone upon its commercialisation.
